As you noticed, the ammunition in the magazine is perpendicular to the barrel and is rotated 90 degrees to align with the chamber. I remember hearing about jamming issues when the P-90 was first introduced, but I have actually heard the opposite more recently. I can't find any sources with statistics right now though - if you find something that shows jams per round I would love to see it.
