Norm McDonald dances on the Crocodile Hunter's grave

rensays...

I was in his home town of Beerwah when he died dag, it was crazy the amount of public mourning going on.
Would have been a lynch mob if you said this stuff out loud.

The whole situation seems so Australian. I never heard a good word about Steve Irwin from an Australian before he died. "A joke", "an embarrassment" "an idiot" were the terms used to describe him. Now the holy trinity has been expanded to a quadrilateral.

Fertilizer is only applied to tall poppies here, after they have been squashed.

He was much more popular in the US than Australia (when living).

I think people thought he was putting on the "Outback Aussie" schtick a bit thickly.

Yeah, I thought the same thing...everyone thought he was annoying in life and a hero in death. People are mutilating stingrays over there. So sad.

The most interesting thing is the power of the media. They can vilify or promote to godhood anyone they desire. The fact remains that he didn't take precautions...but the media cried for more so he kept delivering.

rensays...

yeah it is very easy to jump on the bandwagon for that one.
I never watched his shows but somehow always admired his passion, regardless of how cheesy it seemed.
still, i'm not a big fan of(germaine greer) saying malicious things about someone who is too dead to defend themselves, but jokes are fine in my books

Let me hear that again: "Irwin would have thought this was funny too... if he wasn't so dead."

That's as funny as anything Norm said!

OMG! I was crying at this! Please don't get me wrong, I have the greatest respect for Steve Irwin but I was like Jon and couldn't control myself. It's almost like watching an accident on the freeway.
