NetRunnersays...Bzzzt, Brazil is free from OPEC due to heavy use of ethanol, and while they did need to increase oil production too, that wasn't the biggest factor.
Brazil has 2/3 the population of the U.S., but produces less than 1/4 the oil we do, and they're independent.
My guess is in addition to ethanol, they also do more conservation than we do. Wouldn't be hard, we hardly do any of that, even with $4/gal gas.
*lies

srdsays...Drill here where exactly? In the national parks?
NetRunnersays...He mostly talks about offshore drilling here, but you can be sure he also means the Artic National Wildlife Refuge.

Ermm, if thats true he makes NO mention of it here, that would mean (cynically) that he values oil and ecomony over EVERYTHING ELSE.
Dumbass.
siftbotsays...Moving this video to mintbbb's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.
Zonbiesays...Couldn't you also argue, that this is a short term solution, what when those reserves dry up???
12028says...^Exactly ... 'drill where?' and drilling is merely a 'short term solution'. The continental United States peaked in the mid '70s, cheap oil is peaking worldwide now. It is nothing but scraps now unless one considers non conventional sources like oil shale, which, btw, has a much lower energy returned on energy invested. Sometimes I feel the nation should put aside commonsense and environmental considerations in order to allow the republicans to drill ANWR. They might finally realize that it'll take many years and many millions of dollars to put online for only the equivalent of 3 months production. Drill it and maybe they'll shut the f*ck up and get on with reducing consumption first and developing alternatives second.
