bnsasays...Working at INTEL and just barely ironing out 65nm technology, I can say that this is doesn't exist and won't exist until a company with a LOT of money, time, and effort won't be doing this for the general public anytime soon. Not to mention needing an ultra clean environment to keep from damaging the equipment maker. The Government and the Military would be the first to get their hands on this. ETA for this to become a reality: Probably 20+ years. It will happen eventually, but we're still years away.

mmmm, upvote. (you had me on nanotech)
tremorsays..."Working at INTEL and just barely ironing out 65nm technology"
-Yes but it isn't correct to compare their 65nm technology to Nano based tech...As 65nm is working with existing material at small scales; whereas Nano tech is buiding the material from the ground up - either way; 20 years sounds about right. Still hard to imagine an entire assembly line factory inside such a tiny space.
vaterunsersays...this is awesome...
imagine buying a product online, which is then being built right next to your PC in a matter of a few minutes/hours...
but how are the molecules being connected to each other?
I never thought that was possible...
haggissays...Well, I'd written a comment here, but VS is only displaying the first four lines of it, so I've edited it and put this instead.
Anyway, it was very funny and well-written and insightful. You'd have liked it.
Is there a bug in the comments system or something dag? I just tried again - same result.
detlev409says...If you find this sort of thing interesting, I recommend you check out Neal Stephenson's Diamond Age. You would quite enjoy it.
choggiesays...Reminds me of the little gristmill that kept making salt for the peasant boy so he hid it on a boat...Oh the molecular soup-cup shall be abused, and crazy people will have multiples of wacky things...like world domination and Kevlar flip-flops.
schmawysays...*Dead.
