NBC Dateline reporter outed from DEFCON 15 hacker convention

rembarsays...

It's all fun and games, really. This woman, NBC Dateline producer Michelle Madigan, takes the walk of shame (and probably will be getting a bit more later) and we get a good giggle.

Defcon, like the internets, is not serious business.

joedirtsays...

Probably got a more interesting story out of it. It is now on the front page of NBC website and I'm sure she will have exclusive interviews about the hacker subculture and how she felt threatened. She's got media 'cred' to talk on camera now about l33t h@x0rz. Why not send the dorky guy from IT instead of someone who obviously sticks out in that crowd.

Engelssays...

Noone sees the irony in a bunch of self-righteous hackers, who's entire self-imposed job description is to infiltrate systems 'illegally', getting all up in arms about a reporter doing exactly what they do?

twiddlessays...

Oh lovely, Engels, all hackers are criminals right? Thanks for trying to perpetuate that myth. As rembar said, it is "fun and games" so I would hardly call them self-righteous.

There is nothing ironic about someone trying to do what many of these people do for a living, and badly I might add, and then getting pwned for it.

Dateline and their "catch a xxx" stuff is tired and stupid. They should spend more energy investigating the government. That is what the fourth estate was meant to do.
