Column excerpts:

"The film is hosted by director Phelim McAleer and filmed by his wife, Ann McElhinney. Both are self-proclaimed "British leftists" with backgrounds in journalism. When McAleer came across the story of Greenpeace's attempts to prevent a mine from being built in Romania while working as a business reporter, he discovered that the interests of the people in this small Romanian town and the interests of environmentalists were at odds."

-------------------

"The film is funded, in part, by mining interests, a point which Greenpeace and Lefties make often when attacking it. McAleer claims there was no editorial influence exerted. Of the four documentaries he and his wife have done, in fact, this is the only one that the funders haven't changed, he said. He's done work in the past for the BBC. The mining funders did not see the film until it was finished, he said."

--------------------

"The head of Greenpeace was invited to the screening as a guest, since his organization comes under fire in the film. Instead, he and Greenpeace protestors have been working to get National Geographic to cancel the screening, according to the film's directors."

I would love to downvote this, just because of all the positive karma you have built up being an idiot... But then you'd bitch (or tell your wingnut buddies) about the censorship of this leftist bastion. I still hope you are just some 15 yr old wanna-be.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)

Upvote for what would be be a doozy of a discussion thread, if this made it to the front.

Obviously though - funded by mining companies - what's their motive, besides filthy lucre? Really great that they're sticking up for those poor people. [sniff, warms the cockles of my heart]

Sure, no editorial control, but you can bet they wouldn't have greenlighted Michael Moore to make this film.

I currently live in Indiana, but I lived in Kentucky back in the day. Kentucky is home to many poor Americans who stood to benefit from activities like mountaintop mining, and aren't too hard to convince with promises of money and reclamation efforts after each site is mined, and promises of continued employment beyond the next couple years.

After a few years of coal sludge leaks into the streams that supply your communities water it sets in that the mining companies don't give two shits about poor people, but by then the laws are in place, the land is sold, the company has invested and the poor are trapped.

Greenpeace is an easy target, by the way, and always has been. They drive boats between whales and whaling ships for craps-sake! Thats a pretty easy taget! Saying environmentalism is best represented by Greenpeace is like saying only vegans care about animals.

'The Creation' by E.O.Wilson is a great book, by the way. He is basicly my only hero in science right now. I love leaving long comments late at night.
