spoco2says...Oh thankyou with finding another clip of him in the band... great stuff.
He SO modeled himself on Bowie didn't he? The sound, the look, he would have made a GREAT Bowie double back in the day.
But man, poor Ricky, to have all these people going 'Gee, who would have thunk he actually was passable looking back in the day'... effectively saying 'He's f'ing ugly now'.
Poor guy, it must really cut to hear stuff like that.
But hurray for Ricky and his immense fortune now (fortune in money and in ability to follow what he wants to do)
8578says..."and i remember thinking, we won't see him again"
yeah right you did you fucking waffler, cos we all remember half-thoughts made 24 years ago about something we saw on tv.
Gervais on the other hand is just an egotist, doesn't make it as a singer so he re-invents himself as village idiot. these people will do anything for recognition. He's no more a comic genius than he was a singer, but somehow he managed to get on tv while being shit at both.

videosiftbannedmesays...Yes, he's shit at being a comedian/actor. Which is why he's so popular with two hit shows and a myriad of new opportunities, eh? I suppose he could be doing something more meaningful like wanking off about celebrities on a video forum somewhere...
This just makes me admire him even more, for not giving in to defeat.
You've got my vote, Issy!
8578says..."he's so popular with two hit shows and a myriad of new opportunities, eh"
the same argument can be made for Britney Spears, M. Night Shyamalan, and Robin Williams.
just because someone is deemed 'popular' doesn't make them talented or gifted, especially in the media. It's all about exposure and hob-nobbing with established peers which is exactly what Gervais does. Sorry if i hurt your feelings by slating your fat talentless hero.... you probably identify with him too much.
Issykittysays...drowned? We can only hope...
Actually, he has THREE hit shows, most downloaded podcasts, and the fastest record of tickets sold for his live standup in history. Jealous much? It is apparent you are because of your bitter attempt at being insulting by trolling the comments. Why would you even bother?
8578says...PissyKitty, your arguments are fucking laughable. Who else puts their shit on the net in Guardian 'podcasts' ? Armando Iannucci, Stewart Lee, Dylan Moran, Peter Kay, Jerry Seinfeld ? none of them do, so your most downloaded boast is ridiculous. Again with this bullshit that he's a comic genius because he has mass appeal. No - he has mass appeal because his jokes are mainstream and don't require any brainpower to comprehend. Westlife have more UK number 1's than Michael Jackson, therefore by your retarded-lonely-cat-loving-woman logic, Westlife must be greater musical geniuses than Michael Jackson.
A true test of his talent is how he's judged by his peers, and i don't read about any of them singing his praises...oh wait they're just jealous too.

What arguments? Troll, you are the one polluting the comments with nasty personal attacks, just because you have some sad obsessive and all-consuming hatred of Ricky Gervais. Are you some personal enemy of his that you find him so threatening? Poor you! Calm the fuck down, hothead. I personally find him funny and enjoyable. I never said he was a comic genius, and fine if others think that. I don't appreciate the name-calling in a thread of my submissions, and I especially don't like it that you are attacking other members of the community. All I know is that I enjoy the entertainment, he makes me laugh, and you are going to argue with that by being rude and bringing up the same tired point? I'm done. That's a threat AND a promise!
dystopianfuturetodaysays...Let's not feed the troll, Issy. Ignore this dim bulb and maybe he'll go back to youtube.

I do identify with him, thank you very much. Anyone who doesn't give up and continues to chase his dream is great example to follow. And I'm curious how talent and popularity don't go together in your mind... You obviously are missing the concept of the entertainment business. Exposure and "hob-nobbing," as you so eloquently put it, isn't going to get the masses to like you, it's going to get only the studio heads to like you. Duh. It's annoying to have to explain simple logic to people sometimes. And you would do well to read up on your FAQ, as personal attacks aren't tolerated.
Regardless, I'm done with you. I refuse to get into long-winded debates with morons, as they'll only drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience. Cheers.
my15minutessays...i guess some of us aren't drowning, in our own subjectivity, enough to rant about other people's ideas of what's funny...
blankfistsays...Drowned in sound? Man, I wish this probie douchbag could be drowned in shit. I fear we have another worthless poster on this site, and I sure wish we wouldn't be castigated for * banning him.
