qruelhhmm, sounds better than the public school system here in the usa.
schmasays...The clip is produced by the American Montessori Society (so it says in the opening credits, at least
. It's sort of a commercial (hence soothing music, footage of smiling kids, etc), so I'm going to watch this with that in mind. We have a few Montessori schools here as well, and I'm curious to what their "thing" is.
swampgirlExcellent post, thankyou. This curriculum is clearly a "what you make of it" kind. Desipite it's questionable beginnings, it has lots of merit. And I agree qruel, ANY school has to be better than a US public school.
If you find Montessori interesting, I would love your opinion on the Charlotte Mason Method. There seems to be a big crossover between the two. Montessori and Charlotte Mason share the idea that children are born with the ability to acquire knowledge independently though whole, stimulating materials. I've noticed CM folks and selling Montessori manipulatives on Ebay as well.
Charlotte Mason's ideas are making a big comeback in the Homeschooling community.
In our home we're currently attempting a happy blend between Charlotte Mason and classical education methods.
daxgazmy kids both go to a public Motessori and we love it. It's not as pure as the ones shown in this video, because it's public and they enforce some archaic state standards on all public schools (here in New York State). But, the school does their best to give the kids a good experience and both my kids are thriving. thanks for spreading the word!
notarobotNice to see some Montessori on the sift.
