Most people have probably seen the videos of the model of the Enterprise in Minecraft, or the guy that burnt his house down, but there doesn't seem to be any Minecraft gameplay videos on the Sift.
This tutorial video shows the first few minutes of the game, where you start out with nothing but your bare hands.
From YT: "Tutorial for Minecraft Alpha (where bad things come out from the dark and try to eat you). It is intended to help new players learn how to survive their first night in the Minecraft Alpha universe. The tutorial demonstrates what to do in the first few minutes of the game (while the sun is shining!) in order to increase your avatar's chances of surviving the coming night."

Yeah, wondered that myself, before posting it.
It only gives you the first basic recipes and a couple of tips, there's plenty left to discover.
Also the title is pretty clear; if someone wants to figure the game out from scratch maybe they shouldn't be watching a tutorial on how to survive the first night.

This video got me through my first night.
Croccydilesays...Same. I would have probably not wanted to figure out the first night by experimentation. There is plenty left to do that is not in this video
He may have been able to survive in the dark though, someone had been working out mob spawning methods in the game and in a small hole like that even if it was pitch black, nothing would have spawned. A monster must be at least 25 blocks away to spawn in darkness.
(Keep this in mind if your first game you cant find coal the first day)
