I think you are missing the point of where this "debate" took place -- it was the uber conservative, uber religious "debate."

Her doing the "serving" under these circumstances is just down right yucky. It feels like some weird double role she is playing -- congress member, running for president, but for this crowd she fake puts on the "little woman" role.
