There's been a lot of speculation about the secret briefing that NASA gave the President on July 31 about recent findings from the Phoenix Rover. Some of the presentation is tongue-in-cheek (it's Rocketboom), but everything she mentions is accurately referenced (see below).

The secrecy bit does seem a bit weird - and is intriguing. To summarize, I like this lady better than Amanda Condon.

i wouldn't be surprised, i'm suspicious about why they spend so much money on these missions. seems likely those in power are just attempting to gain more power.

Finding oil would be absolutely massive.

It would mean mars once harbored vast plant-life, which doesn't exist without bugs, bacteria, viri, and other, larger animals to keep the eco-system in check.

Id be VERY surprised if they found oil.
