La Monte Young - The Well-tuned Piano

In 1964 Young began what may always prove his greatest work: The Well-Tuned Piano, an improvisatory yet highly structured piano work that started at 45 minutes and has, in most recent performances, extended over six hours, containing more than 50 themes and chordal areas. Young is also legendary for his sine-tone installations, assemblages of droning overtones in complex arrays of prime numbers that now explore pitch space up to the 2304th harmonic.

Great post. Young has been a maverick from the way back. Don't think you'd be able to sit through a full performance though.
("The Well-Tuned Piano (1964-73-81-present). Each realization is a separately titled and independent composition. Over 60 realizations to date. World premiere: Rome 1974. American Premiere: New York 1975 "Performances have exceeded six hours in length"-WIKI)

We are all, works in progress.

If I could promote this I would. I just tried to post this and found this dupe. I remember a couple years ago nothing of La Monte Young's was on Youtube. I find the Well Tuned Piano to be a very profound and tragic composition. It was released very very late and then lost it's distribution when Rykodisc was bought-out. Anyway, this is absolutely amazing!
