This is so true. The worst is everybody here is a flake enabler...they can't get mad at you for flaking cause they flake too.

I used to love watching this guy...what the hell happened to him? Haven't seen him in ages.

Flaking is not showing up, or doing something you agreed to do. In California in general flaking is regularly used as an excuse for flaking, it's a little circular, but everyone just seems to go along with it.

Not exactly...originally "flake" was a negative that others used to describe someone who was unreliable..."don't count on Steve showing up to the party because he's a flake". The next day Steve might have some bullshit excuse about why he didn't come but because Steve has a reputation of not being reliable people wouldn't buy the excuse and call him out as being a flake.

At some point people started to take ownership of their "flakiness" and instead giving someone the opportunity to call them out as a flake they would just own up that they either had a "lame excuse" or that they just "forgot" by declaring they flaked.
