Just How Loud Are Diesel Engines?

During Le Mans 2006 an Audi R10 Diesel is pushed out of the pits, fires up and pulls away - in almost complete silence.

Turbo diesels are really really awesome. It is a shame we don't like them here in the USA. We had a turbo diesel jetta in the 80s that got 50 miles to the gallon..50! That is why when I look at the Prius and the other hybrids pushing 40, I am like...that's it? I had 50 in the 80s.
