This just disgusts me.

I just hit Google News and it's the number one story.

Every time I get so much as an ounce of confidence in this country again, something like this happens and reminds me how hopeless it is.

He lied about having an affair. I guess that's the fucking gold standard now of all political worth.

Fuck me to tears.

America is a fucking shit hole.

Uhm, so? Humans have affairs and most lie about them. In some countries the media goes wild if those humans happen to be politicians. And with politicians in the US in the past few years, let's just put up a great big headline "Capitol Hill is full of lying gay perverts". I bet the general reaction would be a yawn. But at least these "shockers" would be over with.

To a degree, I'm not so concerned about the affair itself. Instead I'm concerned about the fact that he knew both that a) there were rumors about his affair circulating, and b) that the rumors were true...and decided to make a serious bid to become the Democratic nominee for President anyway.

For Democrats, cheating on their wives seems to be their biggest crime -- they like the booty, and it usually costs them a lot politically.

But, which would you rather have, Clinton getting blow jobs from interns in the White House, or Bush staying loyal to his wife and shredding the Constitution?

Also, keep in mind that there's not much secrecy about McCain's affair. Not the Vikki Iseman story, the affair he had with Cindy Hennessy (now Cindy McCain) while still married to his wife who was recovering from a car accident at the time.

It doesn't seem to bother people as much, even though that affair resulted in him ditching his wife for a younger model. Where is the party of "family values" right now? Bitching full steam about Edwards, even though he's not running for anything anymore. They're certainly not up in arms about Bush and torture.

Personally, I wish people would leave Edwards alone now. His career in politics is over, and he's obviously going through some hard family times already, even before this became a national story (his wife has cancer, remember?).

He definitely made a mistake, but at this stage, it's really none of our business anymore.

Once again, it illustrates the totalitarian nature of our country.

When a Democrat does it, it's big news.

When a Republican does it, it's nobody's business but their own.

The tabloids don't dare expose the Republicans, or the Bush clan, for fear of getting some anthrax mailed to them.
