I generally dislike indie rock a great deal, always have, but this is the one great notable exception. Their 2002 album Turn on the Bright Lights is one of the best albums I've ever heard in any genre and me and a number of critics suggest you go and check it out.
Wiki:
Interpol is an American indie rock band, formed in 1997 in New York City. The members of the band are Paul Banks (vocals, guitar), Daniel Kessler (guitar, vocals), Carlos Dengler (bass guitar, keyboards - commonly referred to as Carlos D.) and Sam Fogarino (drums, percussion). The band's debut album Turn on the Bright Lights was critically acclaimed, making it into the NME top ten albums of the year for 2002.[citation needed] The follow-up, Antics, was both a commercial and critical success. In 2007 the group released its third album, Our Love to Admire.

shuacsays...Love Interpol, especially the bass player: amazing bass lines in tunes like Obstacle 1 (my fav) and Slow Hands. Amazing.

bleedingsnowmansays...The only thing "Indy" means is "Independent," which mean it's not back by copious amounts of mullah. There's also independent folk, hip-hop, farmers, general stores, etc. You probably meant you don’t like pretentious music, unless you really don’t like musicians that are poor.
