'I live now in a world of ghosts, a prisoner in my dreams', says
Antonius Block, a knight returning to plague ravaged 13th century Sweden. While it can be argued that this is not a horror film, I've always found it to be much more terrifying than many of the run of the mill zombie-slasher-vampire flicks... perhaps because the terror is much more psychological, or because the depiction of such a horrible period of history is so raw. Whatever the reason, I like!
Starring: Max von Sydow, Gunnar Björnstrand, Bengt Ekerot, Nils Poppe, & Bibi Andersson.
