♫ I'm Not Ready to Make Nice ♫ Dixie Chicks

LadyBugsays...

regardless of your views ... i think this song speaks volumes. the dixie chicks, deservingly so, won 5 grammys last night: record of the year, song of the year, album of the year, best country album, best country performance (by a duo or group with vocal)

make of it what you will ... but i couldn't be happier that they were finally validated, and dare i even say vindicated for speaking their mind a few years ago.

natalie maines was a little spitfire last night!! go chicks!!!!

Hey, for those of us that don't know the details LadyBug, what was the controversy? I don't understand the Politics tag for this and what was "speaking their mind" that went wrong?

I don't like country music, but I certainly like about 5 songs from the Dixie Chicks.

At a concert in London supporting their previous CD, Home, the lead singer said "We're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas" at a concert in London.

This being around the height of Bush's march to war, the right wing in America went nuts, crushing their CDs at rallies, demanding their songs be pulled from radio, and phoning in death threats to the girls in the band.

The album that won 5 Grammys last night, Taking the Long Way, was largely in response to the contoversy, and the video above was the first single and addressed it most directly.

A documentary about the whole affair, Shut Up and Sing, will be out on DVD in a couple weeks.

Last night's Grammy performance of the above song:

Forgive, sounds good.
Forget, I'm not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I'm still waiting

I'm through, with doubt,
There's nothing left for me to figure out,
I've paid a price, and I'll keep paying

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

I know you said
Why can't you just get over it,
It turned my whole world around
and i kind of like it

I made my bed, and I sleep like a baby,
With no regrets and I don't mind saying,
It's a sad sad story
That a mother will teach her daughter
that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.
And how in the world
Can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
Saying that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

I'm not ready to make nice,
I'm not ready to back down,
I'm still mad as hell
And I don't have time
To go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should

Forgive, sounds good.
Forget, I'm not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I'm still waiting
