Fucking entitlement mentality. What about all those immigrants who are still awaiting legality? What does giving her public loans, say to them?

I feel for her; but no public loans.

I would be willing waive that if she gave some mandatory service to the state for a number of years; only because she came here at 8 and didn't break the law of her own volition.

Also, if she is that good academically, she can get a scholarship or a private loan.

I know legal immigrants who are still going through great inconvenience because they follow the law. She should get in line.

Give her a free ride, well free until she has to service that loan? Yep let's just start handing out subsidized educational loans to everyone let the tax payer take risk. Taxpayers already have enough risk; military spending and other big shit. Giving her a public loan would set a startling precedent and it would give other illegal immigrants the ability to get public loans; legally.

It's pathetically petty to deny any sort of aid to a person who has distinguished themselves to the degree that she has.

I like you, NR, but last I heard everyone left at Ellis Island was dead.

Her parents brought her here when she was eight years old.

She's lead an exemplary life, at least in academic terms, and I think that a country--a country that brags so much about free markets and wise investments--that denies this young person any kind of assistance based on what amounts to a fluke of geography has its head up its ass.

Yeah, I'm really liberal, but I'm with Cenk on this one. The point of federal aid is for eligible US citizens to get higher education. She needs to take out private loans, otherwise we might as well fund college education globally.

Uhm.. that sounds like a fantastic idea! Tho instead of loans maybe it could be vouchers to redeem the cost of classes successfully mastered.

I like the civil service idea. I'm pretty liberal, too and the idea of "picking and choosing" illegal immigrants to give loans that even some Americans are not capable of getting (didn't register with selective service, dishonorable discharge, etc) doesn't seem right to me.

However, I'm all for helping folks who want to live in this country to do so, thusly, to expedite her citizenship, a military term of enlistment (or similar program that I may be unaware of) would work out great in this case.

The real question is why can't she quickly become a citizen.

Let's put it this way (using some of the examples given by TYTs): give the Kardashian bimbos, Bristol Palin, and this illegal alien chick the standard immigration test... who do you think is going to pass?

Anti-immigration is un-american. Far more than any bullshit people claim is un-american. America is fundamentally ABOUT immigration. I'm not saying that every criminal should just get in without a hassle, but someone with this kind of credential should be able to get in easily.

I mean in reality why should sumone who happens to be born more clever / is more adapt at working the educatoinal system ( u dont get grades just by working hard) be rewarded more than say sumone that happens to be born with a less educatoinaly geard mind.

both people can easily and often are equaly as valid and usfull in a socity.
