bamdrewsays...So, everbody who pulls a gun out is 1)right handed, 2) aiming right at your face 3)standing, arm extended perpendicular, so that the gun hand is exactly an arms distance away, and 4)holding a pistol with an large exposed hammer.
I'm 100% sure that if I were standing ready to shoot this dude I could turn my arm a quarter of an inch and pull with my finger before this guy could get close to doing this.
But by all means, feel free to try it out and prove me wrong! Maybe if it were dark, and the attacker was drunk... heh
rickabruzzosays...can't wait for someone to pull a gun on me so I can try this.
quantumushroomsays...Videos like this get good people killed in real life-or-death situations. When your adrenaline dumps, you lose almost all your fine muscle control, so this crap about placing your thumb or finger or whatever in front of the hammer is ridiculous. You'll be lucky to even start moving and meanwhile, expect the gun to fire at least once.
Those who've trained in combat arts know that in a real life-or-death sitch, about half your skill simply vanishes into the ether. You don't rise to the occasion, you sink to the (halved) level of your training.
These MTV-style edited vids don't work for some things. Like reality.
mauz15says...I Just have a question:
Have you ever heard in the news or read in the paper about someone succesfully disarming a person using this technique? because I have not.
rugbybanditsays...even if you were skilled enough to react calmly enough in a situation like this to try to pull this move... any person who is skilled with a pistol would know to be standing 1 more foot back... which makes this move irrelevent. More people die from knives than guns in close quarters.
CrushBugsays...You guys are getting too caught up in the singular situation here. Do you really think that this is the only training a police officer (or whatever) gets? Do you think this is what they spend half their training on? Of course not. But you are shown what to do in a situation. And in many different situations.
In the end its doesn't matter whether or not you can use this technique, but it does matter when you decide that other innocent lives are in danger. You may have to try to disarm the guy if the situation calls for it and that your actions won't put more people in danger from it.
Seriously, don't focus on the microcosm of this once act, but rather lets enjoy another fine entry on VideoSift!
CrushBugsays..."Have you ever heard in the news or read in the paper about someone succesfully disarming a person using this technique?"
And why would you ever hear about it? What about the method of disarming a person is more newsworthy than the fact that there was some whackjob out there with a gun? Why would this even get mentioned?
peretzsays...Obviously, if he were standing farther away you would have to use a different technique, like shooting a ninja-power-ball out of your focused chi. Jeez, some people will criticize anything.
viewer_999says...Wow, what a bunch of negative louts. You're doubting that self defense techniques work? You're doubting that these techniques can be adapted on the fly and applied successfully? You're doubting that any given person can have trained combat skill over any other given person? You shouldn't.
mauz15says...Ok crushbug, you are right in both of your comments. I guess I was being a little close minded. Well, at least I am now aware of it. Thanks.
rembarsays...No, no, no, no. Ugh.
