Goofball_Jonessays...The hippo was defending it's territory. Hippos are about the most dangerous things to encounter in the wild. Nothing messes with them in their territory.
maudlinsays...If it was strictly a territorial squabble, I think the hippo would have tangled directly with the croc and wouldn't have pushed the impala up the bank. That said, I don't see why it would have any hippo-rational reason to want to protect or revive the impala, either. I wish I knew what it was really doing when it kept gumming the impala's head.
Dashsays...Maybe the hippo had never tasted impala before and he wondered what all the fuss was about?
karaidlsays...Damn, I thought the title was talking about the car.
johnald128says...hippos are territorial so it was probably chasing it away at first, and then sometimes they eat dead animals - so it might have been checking if it was dead when it was on the floor.
also, hippos are hostile towards crocodiles so chasing the impala is just another point to the hippos.
could be because it was being nice but that's not as likely as other reasons
