This post reminded me of this incredibly moving anime, Grave of the Fireflies.
Farhad has another video
here, and I'll quote what he said there:
Grave of the Fireflies (火垂るの墓, Hotaru no Haka?) is a 1988 anime movie written and directed by Isao Takahata for Studio Ghibli. It is an adaptation of the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Akiyuki Nosaka, intended as a personal apology to the author's own sister. Some critics (most notably Roger Ebert) consider it to be one of the most powerful anti-war movies ever made. Animation historian Ernest Rister compares the film to Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List and says, "it is the most profoundly human animated film I've ever seen."

RedSkysays...Single most depressing movie I have ever seen.
JTZsays...Great movie, but you don't need the Nuclear tag. As the movie has nothing to do with the the nukes dropped on Japan, but the fire bombings of Tokyo. And I don't know why it would be in the war on terror channel...
8756says...Automatic upvote for this "chef d'oeuvre".
elyssesays...epic win for sad. Grave of the Fireflies makes me cry EVERY goddamned time i see it, or even encounter bits of it.. combine that with the defacto theme for Empire of the Sun (which, incidentally, did briefly touch on nukes) which also makes me cry a little (and want a Hershey bar) and there, in all it's glory, is 2.25min of crying.
Farhad2000says...See Pixar? You can't do this, take your cheap commercialized shit and shove it.
NeuralNoisesays...I´ve watched it in all it´s glory and beauty. It took me two months to un-depress.
