LiveLeak: Businesses and homes containing and displaying expensive plasma screen TVs are currently under attack in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. More and more of these sought-after items are being stolen and it is suspected that there is a lucrative black market for them. A business in Port Elizabeth lost three large plasma screen TV's at 03h52 in the morning.
The CCTV footage shows how quickly the brazen burglars broke down the front door and gained entry into the premises. The three men dispersed inside the building and simply pulled three plasmas from the display wall and carried them to a vehicle that was waiting in the parking area. All of this took place within 20 seconds. A case of burglary was opened with the police, who will investigate

Tymbrwulfsays...I want to see them try this with a 40 inch CRT. Those things weigh a little over 300 lbs.(136 kg) each.

I still have my CRT TV from 1996.
spawnflaggersays...most HDTV mounts do come with screws to tighten them down. and it's relatively cheap to replace at least one of those screws with "security screws". that would have increased the time from 20 seconds to a few minutes...if the burglars were expecting it and carrying all the right driver bits and screwdrivers.
Perhaps long enough for police to respond if they had a silent alarm system, but if they had a really loud alarm, I don't think the burglars would work through that for several minutes - they would just go on to the next target.
