George Carlin and Bill Hicks, telling it like it is..

It's amazing to listen and see how relevant both of these comedic geniuses material still is today. Great video. R.I.P. to both.

Bill Hicks. I've watched all the Bill Hicks I come across looking for this genius everyone keeps talking about. All I ever find is an angry guy regurgitating trite, cynical comments that you first heard in any college coffee house you may have entered...with periodic pauses for laughter.

George Carlin was a fucking genius.

Now, watching these two back to back like this, I can finally end the search for the hidden genius of Bill Hicks. He wasn't funny and he wasn't original. He was just abrasive, which is obviously appealing in it's own way to a large number of people.

Kennedy bombed the hell out of Vietnam, and it took a lot of creative editing to convince people that he was thinking remotely of pulling out of Vietnam. He wasn't going to do it, he was all about that War, so no the government didn't kill him because he wanted to do his own thing. He wasn't a peacenik, he wasn't a good guy, he was the president. You don't get that far without internalizing certain facts, one of which is that the US can do whatever it wants to control whoever it wants.
