George Carlin always managed to cut to the heart of the issues and show people exactly where they were wrong. And why that was funny.

He wasn't /always/ right, but you could pretty much count on him to show us what the real problem was--knowing, wisely, that it's almost never what people say it is.

If this were pagan Rome, we'd be offering sacrifices to propitiate the newest demi-god in Olympus, gone to join his father (Mercury, clearly) after shucking off his moral shell.

It's kind of annoying listening to someone repeat the lie that religion killed more people than anything else. Even if you can claim that wars such as the 30 Years War or the Crusades were over religion (which was only part of the motivation for those wars), they still don't pale to the notably atheist communist mass murderers: Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot.
