I mean, seriously. No defense at all. No thrusts to speak of. And apparently no sense of the strategic value of whacking the other dude's arm or legs off. (When that one dude raises his arms to strike? Perfect time to go for those arms. They're defenseless.)

Not to mention their horrible footwork or unbalanced, unpracticed swings.

If nobody dies, how do you know who wins? I'm guessing these guys probably aren't naturally athletic to any great degree.

alright..dude.. We're talking a fun tournament.

No thrusts, because if you thrust with a sword at a guy with a suit of armour, you'll most likely penetrate the armour and wound them. Yes, that' strategic, as is cutting off arms and legs. But again, remember. THIS. IS. NOT. FOR. REALY.

it's a game, it's not thunderdome. Both participants will walk out, limbs intact.

Eh? Who's acting tough? I was just commenting on how hilariously bad their swordplay is, and how nerdy it is that I think I could take them. (A member of the SCA, of course, would mop the floor with me, for reference.)

You have a point about the thrusts. It doesn't look like they were using weapons with rounded tips. Even without thrusts being allowed, there could have been accidents.

Their arms and legs were armored, though. A blow to the gauntlet or forearm might have stung, and might very well have knocked a sword out of hand, but wouldn't have done any real damage.

Imagine this, UFC + Swords. That'll give any guy a nerdgasm just thinking about it.
