Fox News Thinks Salvia is Dangerous

Fox brings on a doctor to give reasons why salvia is dangerous, but neither the doctor nor the host can adequately explain any danger beyond behavior that is also exhibited by tobacco smokers and alcohol drinkers.

Another shining example of illogical and unscientific bias of Fox News.
Lowensays...

The shit that passes for journalism these days... "We don't know what the long term effects are". According to shitty modern journalism that doesn't imply that we should find out more about the long term effects before doing a story on it, it means we should run a story where someone uses ignorance to justify banning it.

direpicklesays...

Maybe it's just because I've only seen it on the Internet, and no one puts videos on the Internet unless some really dumb shit happens, but I can't say that a video of someone doing salvia has ever even remotely made me want to try it.

Psychologicsays...

Wow, people on video smoking salvia and laughing out loud. My god, how do we stop this?

And people taking their kids to the emergency room? It lasts what, 5 minutes? Maybe 10 if you smoke a lot of highly refined extract. They're completely sober by the time they get to the hospital.

No one really knows the health implications so people probably shouldn't use a lot of it. Maybe it's harmless, or maybe it kills brain cells... I don't know of any studies on the subject. I couldn't find any report of Salvia killing anyone, though the suicide of one kid was blamed on his past experimentation with Savlia (by the parents). On a related note, alcohol is estimated to kill around 300 people per day in the USA.

I've tried it and I really can't understand why people would want to do it more than 2-3 times. Kids getting hooked on it? Maybe, but I don't see how. It's a very awkward experience... definitely hallucinogenic, but I wouldn't really call it "enjoyable".
