Just a couple of fight scenes from one of my all time favorite action movies and proof that you should never rely too much on the critics to judge a movie. Even though the movie is an action movie; it does also deal with a few philosophical/ethical questions usually revolving around the pros and cons of emotion, the greater good and freedom.
Following quoted text pulled from wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equilibrium_(film)
"Equilibrium is a 2002 action and science fiction film written and directed by Kurt Wimmer. Christian Bale has the lead role in the film and is supported by Taye Diggs, Angus Macfadyen, Sean Pertwee, Emily Watson, David Hemmings, and Sean Bean.
Although it was received well by test audiences, the film was given only a limited release and little promotion and was generally poorly received by critics. However, over the years its ratings have significantly improved....
...There are 236 deaths in Equilibrium with Christian Bale's character Cleric John Preston killing 118 of those people."
Following an apocalyptic Third World War, the strict government of the city-state Libria has eliminated war by suppressing all human emotion

10419says...I think I side with the critics on this movie. I always thought it took its self too seriously, especially with fight scenes and concepts which seemed to me very silly. the idea that one can rapidly switch between different posses during a gun fight to decrease the probablity of being hit, for example, looked too much like silly dancing.
Infact any action movie where the good guy could run ten laps around a football stadium full of bad guys with assault rifles trying to shoot him and fail to hit him are abit too much for me.
I like action scenes more like those in children of men which I thought were many times more intense and effective than anything movies in this style can dish up.
All in my opinion of course!
9980says...I agree with wjolson. It had great potential, but it lost a lot of points with me for trying to combine the ideas of Brave New World and 1984 with action movie dialogue, plotting, and cliches. I think the movie could have been wonderful if directed by someone more...talented.
Edit: All of that said, you get an upvote for the awesome title.
GDGDsays...Rofl, I love this movie. Too bad it helped result in Ultraviolet....
budzossays...I tried really hard to like this movie but it tries so hard to be different things that you can never get absorbed in it. Mainly it tries way too hard to be cool, which is the fastest way to become tiringly uncool.
