I hope this guy gets sent away for a long time. And I don't think its just the alcohol society, though that's certainly the largest and legal part of it, its the substance abuse society. Its not enough for people to simply enjoy the state altering effects of drugs, they have to get as high as possible then stumble out loose their freshly uninhibited self against society.

Competent cop? Hardly - they let him get back into the car after taking his piss, even though he was clearly drunk. They already had ample video evidence from the initial pursuit (not that any video evidence is needed if the driver fails the roadside sobriety test), so why did they let him get back behind the wheel? What if he'd caused an accident during the second part of the pursuit?

Story from my old school hometown sheriff: Once had a guy driving like a maniac, he let him go for a bit on the highway, but decided he needed to stop him before he got into town. He pulled up along side, aimed he gun through his own door at the guy and shot. Bullet went through his door, through the other guys door, and hit him in the side. Guy pulls over, they go to take his shirt off and the bullet fell to the ground. Sheriff still has the bullet in a little case at home.
