Democracy Now producer films her own RNC arrest

Here's another not-nearly-enough-information-contained-in-the-video video for you to peruse from the RNC protests. (This is a contextual accompaniment to joedirt's fine sift showcasing the Amy Goodman arrest.)

Sourced from the St. Paul Star Tribune:

The alternative broadcaster [Amy Goodman] was handcuffed and stripped of her Monday floor credentials, she said, after she rushed to the scene of a mass arrest near Jackson Street downtown hoping to extricate two producers caught up in the crackdown.

The producers -- Nicole Salazar and Sharif Abdel Kouddous -- eventually were arrested on suspicion of felony riot, and Goodman was cited for misdemeanor interference with a peace officer. They were jailed for five hours; Goodman for about three, she said.

...

According to her account, she [Goodman] was at the Xcel Energy Center preparing to interview members of the Minnesota delegation when she got word of her producers being entangled in police action against a rogue band of protesters.

Police moved in quickly, Goodman said, and Salazar, who was taping the altercation, found herself backed up against a car. Salazar shouted, "Press, press," Goodman said, but the producer was forced to the ground, and had a boot placed in her back.

There had been no order by police to disperse, Goodman said.

come on apologists for fascist America. Clearly this is her fault for not "following orders". Of course she should have ran faster, clearly she must have been creaking the law for not outrunning the wave of stormtroopers..

She'll get a fair trial and the judge will see this video. My guess is she'll be acquitted. She probably should have simply turned around and walked away when the police started yelling to get out of the way.

People tend to ask for the police to explain their (the police's) orders before they obey them. You should do what they say, and ask questions later.

Getting arrested for not immediately heading the commands of a police officer doesn't make you a hero.

By the time you have laid down and done what they wanted it's too late. You might turn around later and say what they asked you to do was wrong - but nothing would come from it... no one is going to reprimand the officer for what they did even if it was wrong.

The problem isn't the person, who has every right to ask questions, the problem is the officer who was not listening and too pumped to stop what he was doing to think for one second.

Not all, but definitely some police officers will abuse their power (it's human nature when you are given a uniform and these rights to tell people what to do) as in most cases the offending officers do not have to face up to what they have done. Possibly suspended from service for a week or so then they're back - maybe working in a different department.

"By 4:00 p.m., the Anti-War Committee had begun to gather at the Capitol grounds, with about 1,000 coming together for speeches and music, according to Mary Aby, a group organizer.

As the last speaker was wrapping up her speech around 4:50 p.m., a police officer announced over the loudspeaker: "Your permit will expire at 5 p.m. At that point you don't have a right to march."

According to Aby, the group had a permit for the rally at the Capitol until 8 p.m. She said police in the crowd were basically provoking protesters. "
