not very exciting counter arguments... "hey there are a lot of sects on both sides" ... so ... that doesnt tell you its illogical to be admant about one way over another?
being an atheiest makes you unable to defend your way of life OVER all others? well why would you want to?? misleadng and really telling... its about passive aggression and dominance, apparently?
thats really misleading and redirecting the question: can you live a moral life without god?
i didn't see anything amazing here. just neat to see that the man on the stage "makes sense" because he's on stage... that is the most telling commentary.
you must know jesus christ in your heart? kind of a weak litmus test. the wonder of knowng and living for god?
more like knowing the security of complete insistence and stubborness regarding one position = one less thing to worry about.
Religion is more for people who don't want to or can't think for themselves. they should try smoking pot.. it's easier AND it makes you feel happy.
drattusLost me in the first seconds, when he first started in on the assumptions that if you don't follow old bronze aged legends you're somehow not logically prepared to defend your way of life. If he doesn't refer to bronze age myths then he doesn't exactly say how they aren't at least as well prepared as he is, given the topic here.
At best those were simplistic tales similar to what we tell children when things are too complex for them to understand, and that's taking a big assumption that there just might have been something to it at one point. How would you possibly have explained modern science to them, what we know about the real world these days? You couldn't, you'd have to draw a parable for them.
At worst it's just the legends of a primitive people who didn't understand the world and who needed a way to explain it, even if it was real only in their imagination. That's my bet for the roots of it and that doesn't logically prepare you for anything, certainly not any better prepared than you'd be without it.

MorganthInteresting, but I'd much rather see the full lecture and Q&A. Short clips hardly do anything justice.
robvWait. This isn't about the hot chick in the video thumbnail? I was lied to.
rebuilderWhat's the point of debating logic when you can't agree on the premises? Religion can be internally perfectly logical, but the premises can never be proven and therefore you can't reason people into a religious view of the world. I do not say this disparagingly, but faith is not a matter of logic.
andybesyI'd also like to see the full lecture.
johnald128says...It might be interesting to watch, it's just a shame this guy's advice is coming from delusion.
how does he know MAGICMAN IN THE SKY exists? because of some old campfire stories written thousands of years ago, which have obvious flaws and contradictions in them showing that they are man made.
He might have some good advice but you'd have to take the things with a pinch of salt because it's already apparent he's delusional..
