volumptuoussays..."An estimated crowd of several hundred dumbasses gathered to announce how fucking ridiculous they are complaining about a fucking sign while people are dying over a lie in Iraq, Afghanistan is blowing up, terrorists kill hundreds in Mumbai, and the US economy is spiraling out of control."
Irishmansays..."We support free speech but we don't support hateful speech"
So, actually, you don't support free speech at all.
And yes, religion is myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds.
As you have just demonstrated, to the world, on the news.
Religion Fail.
Irishmansays...The Freedom From Religion people have certainly gotten their act together, they're hitting loads of media, their message is easily understood and consistent.
If you're going to allow one religious message, you have to allow *all* viewpoints. And they'd rather there were none at all.
The message is ethical and makes perfect common sense.
Kruposays...HA HA HA HA HA - Festivus. Massive upvote.
quantumushroomsays...The message is overridden by its obnoxiousness.
Humanity won't be getting rid of religion anytime soon.
Irishmansays...The message is honourable, ethical and both assumes and promotes equality between all human beings.
If you feel it is obnoxious, then you are saying that human rights and equality are offensive and highly objectionable.
Are you offended by human rights and equality QM?

Again, for some reason I agree with you, but not for the same reason. We're coming at it from different view points, you being of faith, me being an atheist. I agree wholeheartedly that this message is meant to be provocative. To me it's just as obnoxious as a religious sign or billboard.
No Christian is going to read that sign and say, "really? my religion is a myth and a superstition? wow I've been wrong the WHOLE time." Its intentions are to show one's own personal views. Freethinking is not about pushing your own agenda on others, rather, using rational ideas that may (or may not) provoke thought in others.
RedSkysays...Hurrah for double standards!

The 1st two 'stanzas' are neutral but the 3rd stanza is insulting to people of faith. And Gregoire really does look like the Grinch!
Ironically, despite internecine bickering, it's religions that state all human life is equal in the eyes of God.
If you feel it is obnoxious, then you are saying that human rights and equality are offensive and highly objectionable.

I am offended by what has been done in the name of both terms.
Freedom and equality are eternal and natural enemies; too much of either causes serious trouble.
Right now "equality" is too strong and thus freedom is weak.
Political equality can be insulting and deconstructive, depending on who wields that particular scepter. Communistic equality of outcomes, equality of pay for unequal workloads and pretending that inferior methods of doing things are equal in value to a superior method are all harmful to society.
The definition of "human rights" has expanded its sphere to include the ludicrous.
I was an atheist roughly half my life and know the enormous pleasure of thinking oneself superior to people who needed a "delusional force" to survive. While I could claim possibly being happier than someone guilt-racked by fundamentalism, I could never claim I was happier than most religious people.
Neither side of the religion/atheist argument is one-dimensional. There are rational people of faith, including geniuses a-plenty, and fools for a myriad of reasons besides their being atheists.
futsinsays...That is the most inoffensive sign ever.
I could come up with one MUCH more offensive! =)
guitarwolfsays...I never know whether to vote videos of immoral bigots up or down... Festivus = UP!
Irishmansays...This is a thoughtful post from QM and deserves a thoughtful response!
First of all, equality is paramount in both law and religious faith. Equality is mandatory before and after law, and the highest laws of all countries and common wealths are your God given natural rights. In the UK for example the Queen's bible is the highest common law of the land (which is why you swear to tell the truth holding a copy).
This is not to say that those of religious faith won't be offended by equality in action, or those exercising their God given natural rights won't be offended by the response from people of faith. This is where the imbalance lies.
Freedom means having the right to choose any faith, or no faith at all.
Now THIS is important-
"Right now "equality" is too strong and thus freedom is weak."
IS THE SAME AS:
"All men are equal, but some are more equal than others"
