remember watching this in the 80s...

So low-budget (what is that thing really? A dirty rain tarp? And vaseline?), cheesy music, over acting, and yet...

So effective. Plus there's something about the way they keep panning back to the safety of the shore (the car, the radio). Creep show indeed.

But the real mystery is.... how did himbo keep those joints dry?!

In the story, the 'creature' is more of a pure black smooth thing IIRC. When I first saw this version I just laughed. Pretty sure it's just a bunch of industrial Glad garbage bags strung together.

Also, the scene in the story where the creature drags the dude through the dock slats ends with a geyser of blood literally exploding from the guy as he's forced through the small opening.

Probably it's the ominous music that makes the movie version seem more threatening than it is.
