It's an interesting take on it, because I always thought that Ricky's humour comes out of his own insecurities. He doesn't come across as supremely confident - and that's what I like.

Gervais' stand-up is pretty bad. Mostly bottom-of-the-barrel observational humor. He's a brilliant writer and comedic actor, but somehow that didn't translate well to stand-up. It's the opposite with Louis CK. He's probably the best current stand-up comedian, but his sitcom sucked.

Maybe it also takes balls to talk about your own insecurities in front of hundreds of people.

But anyway I like Ricky Gervais too. He's not really as polished and smooth as some comedians but his original style and material make up for it.
