Chomsky on the Convenient Myths of Modern Industrial Society

quantumushroomsays...

Chomsky is a "liberal socialist" who favors the abolition of private property. Pictures of pollution may play in the sticks, but the reality is capitalists make better stewards of the environment than socialists, and there's profit to be made in creating cleaner, more efficient technologies.

There's no defending what Is against a socialist utopia, because the latter doesn't exist.

^ You're too fond of trying to turn everything to socialism, and then when citing the failures of socialism, go back to the Soviet-style socialism for proof. Europe does a lot better on environmental issues across the board, and I don't doubt you'd consider every last one of those countries socialist.

There's a spectrum out there between absolute free market, and a planned economy. Regulated markets fill the entire space in between.

More regulation doesn't mean taking away the right to private property, it's just shaping what sorts of things a market can do, and encourage them to produce different results.

No reason to go to full-on social darwinism, we can skip to the selective breeding stage of market economics, and try to drive the results where we want them to go (based on Democratic processes).
