Chaser's War On Everything: Talking to Americans

maudlinsays...

dag previously posted a segment of this here, but this is a much longer excerpt from the show.

Oh, and I know they selected the most ignorant people for comic effect. They could have done almost as well by trolling the streets of Toronto.

Kruposays...

Sobbing? I'm sure Rick Mercer would be like, "right on". I like the Australian Prime Minister bit.

That'd be a pretty easy way to fool people, though - how many people outside of Australia would recognize him anyway?

Of course it's foolish to assume that any head of state would be wandering streets like that, but whatever.

This sends shivers down my spine. I'm sure there are people THIS AMAZINGLY STUPID in every single country, but it just scares me to see it represented so obviously. Jeeez... Can't someone do something about the ignorant idiots? Like finish them off or something. It's not like these people have ANY excuse to be stupid. They don't seem retarded, and I'm sure they have access to books, and the internet and such....
And Krupo... any person with half a brain and acess to a TV, should be able to recognize AT LEAST the leaders of the G8 countries. I know I know... Australia isn't one of the G8, but they could very well gotten anyone impersonating a german accent and pretend to be the chancelor. I'm sure the result would have been the same.
I mean... That old woman who was asked what is the currency of England; she reacted like no one in the world would know such a thing and asking her that is just too silly.
If they had gone out into a ghetto, or some war torn country, then I certainly wouldn't think much of it, because the people in those situations don't exactly have prime access to information and culture. But this is in the middle of american streets.
There can be absolutely no excuse for people this stupid. They are so by choice.

those that think this is just a smattering of the general public are just being naive themselves. This is way more common than not. I went across the southern states once asking over 30 people how many states were in america, One person got it right. The ignorance here surpases anywhere I have been in the world. Finding excuses or dismissing it is not solving the problem. America is drowning in a sea of ignorance.
