MaxWildersays...This is an important statement coming from somebody who might actually move the decriminalization movement forward (the Vice Chair of the US House Committee on Homeland Security and Chair of the Subcommittee on Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism).
However, let's not put words in her mouth.
She hems and haws quite a bit in order to not give a good soundbite that can be used against her when the inevitable ignorant backlash occurs. The closest she comes is: "Maybe it would be a good pilot program to see how that regulation of marijuana might happen in California, since the populace, the majority of Californians believe maybe that should happen."
I know I'm being a bit anal, I just think quotes should be used only when you are actually quoting. Unless you are being "ironic".

Truckchasesays...The main crime associated with Marijuana use is the questioning of authority.
... and perhaps an unnatural consumption of snack foods.
Psychologicsays...The propaganda of the past stating that marijuana made people aggressive and dangerous worked because no one knew any better at the time. There was no internet and very few objective studies. People who grew up during that time still have a very skewed perception of weed because of the misinformation they saw everywhere.
The situation is different now. Information is not controlled by the government or a select few TV stations. If people want to know the medical implications of anything then they can find multiple sources in under 5 minutes.
Marijuana will be legalized at some point, the only questions are when and how. The main anti-weed demographic is aging out, being replaced by a generation that thrives on ubiquitous access to information. The lies don't work as well anymore. Support for legalization has been growing, and it will only continue to do so.
