Bush admits to Secret Prisons ...

It is difficult to believe that anyone believes a word that he or his administration says these days.

"We do not torture" (waterboarding and dogs chewing gonads excluded by signing statement)

"Only the really guilty are held at Gitmo" (unless you count the dozens of people released or the guy who is still detained even though the Administration has acknowledged his innocence -- see http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/13/AR2005111301061.html)

The administration has exhausted the fiction that they are acting in good faith.

The only reason they would do this now is for political motives. Many politicians are opposed to holding these accused criminals with no due process and no gaurantee of a fair and speedy trial in Cuba.

Now Bush's allies have the argument that there are some people actually associated with 9/11 that are being held there, and not just possible suicide bombers, or whatever. I can guarantee in the next election that this will be used as an easy to understand hillbilly defense for why Guantanamo is operated how it is... we got a couple of the monsters who helped orchestrate 9/11 in there, and we don't want to have to treat them like humans.

Using fear and war as political tools has become par for the course with this administration, and half of Americans are too scared to realize how strange that is.

" then be blasted as unpatriotic/un-American (no big deal) and then thrown into a secret prison with out trial! (big deal) Good times!

Fear is such a powerful tool."

And you are letting yourself be controlled by it. Way to sit on the sidelines, do nothing and then bitch.

Edited for grammar

Liberalism willl always be there for the Coulters of the world. Especially if you define anyone who doesn't believe in dogmatic Christianist neoconservatism as a 'liberal'.

I am hoping that Italian Futurism makes a comeback.

" And what are you doing that's improving the system, tillsb?

Or are you even more wilfully passive than the guy you just called a bitch?"

Show me where I called him a bitch and I will answer your question.

Since I did make a grammatical error I will answer your question then. I am not the type to insult people needlessly especially when I have never met them so if doc took offense I'm sorry.

I am in the Army and have been to Iraq for one deployment already. Even if you disagree and want to argue over whether anything I do is of value to our society then there is nothing I can do about that. Regardless I have always tried my best to do what I believe is right for our country. I will be going back to Iraq in about a year and before I get out of the Army will probably go back at least one more time after that as well.

The whole point of my original post is that if you're going to sit around and complain about the way thing are going then be prepared to actually do something about it. If you start letting fear control you then you are well on your way to allowing what none of us have happen in the further erosion of our rights.
