Hmm his argument for the great "artilect war" is that the ideologies on either side are so entrenched and strongly believed, that a war is inevitable. I know that the progressives will probably fight for their right (to party), but will the 'conservatives'? In this case, that would be people like Al Gore and the Pope... And I'm honestly having trouble understanding their perspective. Would they really fight, you think?

I think he's arguing that they'll feel extremely threatened by the prospect: their jobs, their religion, their resources, their very existence threatened by, frankly, a species that is evolutionarily superior. And if certain political leaders can stir up enough fear in the hearts of the people, I could definitely see this erupting into violence.
