Braid is the best and emotionally deepest game I have played in a long time. It's a unique work of art. It was also almost literally created by one man, Jonathan Blow.
Blow designed the game as a personal critique of recent trends in game development. He funded the project with his own money and spent three years creating it. David Hellman drew the artwork, which underwent several iterations until it satisfied Blow's vision. A preliminary version of Braid without the final artwork won the "Innovation in Game Design" award at the 2006 Independent Games Festival; the final version received additional accolades. The game received positive reviews from critics, eventually becoming the top-rated title on Xbox Live.

That's the most fun thing about this game. After you've spent about two weeks trying to solve this last puzzle and then you finally figure it out, you feel like you're the smartest person in the world.
residuesays...there were definitely a few jaw dropping moments when the solutions suddenly become clear
RedSkysays...Really? I finished it in half a day ...
(Okay so I cheated for like two puzzle pieces because I got antsy but that's not the point!)
Anyway, quite brilliant really. The level where moving backward and forward controlled time was completely mind melting, everything after that was great but nothing quite surpassed it in my opinion.
Art and music was incrediawesome too!
Lowensays...Aww, you guys are making me feel really smart. I got all the puzzle pieces in half a day with no cheating.
I really only bought the game because of the David Hellman art, I love "A Lesson is Learned" so much. http://www.alessonislearned.com/
conansays...well i'm not ashamed to say that i stopped playing it because i found it just too hard. but after all you smarta**es seem to get it in half a day maybe i should try again...
Sylvester_Inksays...Honestly, I think we need more challenging games. Too many games nowadays are easy to make them "accessible" for a wider audience. But then, where goes the satisfaction of having accomplished something once you've beaten it? I'm personally glad that Braid was a bit of a challenge.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...This game is amazing. They need to crank out a sequel pronto.
Jaacesays...I just started playing yesterday and now I'm done but there were definitely some mind-boggling puzzles in there. I had to put it down for a little while and come back refreshed before I could continue at some points. Beautiful game, excellent length.
There are some speculations that this game's story is about the building of the atomic bomb? I don't understand the reference but it's still interesting nonetheless.
EDDsays...There are 8 stars hidden carefully throughout the game - odds are at least 99.99% of players don't find one on the first play-through. Also, collecting them is at least five times as difficult as doing all the 'normal' puzzles - but the reward is a 'true game ending' - a more thorough explanation of the storyline metaphor. That's where the atom bomb comes in. Because of this, the ending you're going to see in the epilogue when you finish the game the first time might make little sense.

dannym3141says...Didn't find the game very hard though it's an excellent game and a benchmark for quality games, this and games like it are what should be lining our video game stores.
I guess i mean that it's not the difficulty that makes braid a great game.. cos even though i whizzed through it, i enjoyed the atmosphere and the style. I've seen a few comments saying "we need more hard games", and though they may have found it difficult, are you sure you weren't drawn in by the style and mystery with which they were presented rather than the difficulty of the challenge?
Cos in that case, go play "I Wanna Be The Guy!" You'll love it.
Btw, this game doesn't need a sequel.. a sequel would ruin the whole thing.

Found 1 star during regular play and said "wtf is that?" so I looked up location of all 8 stars on gamefaqs, and even knowing where they were, it was quite the challenge to get all 8. The new ending wasn't really worth it, but it was worth it just knowing I could get them.
Side note, since this game is so popular on xbox live, I don't think the video needs the "obscure" tag...
ShakeyMcBonessays...Best game of last year. I managed to finish the game without cheating, even though it was tempting to look up a few of the puzzles. They're all fairly simple once you step back and think about it for a moment.
Absolutely love the ending, not many other games have stuck with me like this one has.
Defrost_My_Headsays...Fairly simple once you solve them? *shakes head*
RedSkysays...For anyone who's interested about the 8 stars and alternate ending. Didn't even know this thing existed <_<
