Bill Richardson vs. Melissa Etheridge- being gay is a choice

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson agrees with the statement that being gay is a choice,, he stumbles and fumbles aroud with some weasel words, but doesn't fully clarify his assertions.

I don't think this is homophobia. Just embarrassingly stupid cluelessness. You know yer fucked when someone breaks out with the "I'm not a scientist" line. mmhmmm, you sure ain't. The correct answer by the way, is: "the question is irrelevant because whether or not homosexuality is chosen speaks nothing toward its acceptability which is rather based solely upon whether or not it causes harm. It obviously doesn't and that's all we need to know about it, hence the rights of gays should be equal to those of everyone else." debate over.

couldn't agree more glu.

Implying that one must be a scientist to understand the situation is pretty hilarious.

'I'm not sure why or I don't want to state why I'm of this certain opinion, because I'm not a scientist and therefor don't questions the world around me, but my opinion is that they should stop choosing to be gay.' ... thats what I heard in this clip.

I say "I'm no engineer, but..." sometimes, jokingly in reference to this sort of statement. Also because I work with a lot of engineers who do ridiculous things.

dunno what the issue is with what he said. like he said, it shouldnt make any difference to your rights either way.

why should someone's choice affect their right to eqality anyway ? sounds a bit duff to me.

meh.

Agree with glu. Give them their rights, let the "moral" outcries, maybe, pick on something real like poverty or human rights. I hate organized religion when it's so loud and obnoxious like it gets here.
