Hmm. Interesting theory and he may well be on to something.

...However, I'm sure that there are still plenty of frustrated dateless dudes in the countries around the world that have drastically lower rates of firearm violence / death than the US...

There's certainly a correlation there. Not sure it can be proven as causal (as there are certainly other factors like availability to fire arms).

But it's a solid hypothesis.

Because access to guns is a lot more difficult. That's the second part to this problem.

I do think he's unto something. I have thought about it myself. Terrorists and mass-shooters all seem like pathetic little shit who are completely sexually repressed and/or sexually frustrated.

"Access to guns" certainly plays a role, but I'm not convinced that it is even the biggest factor. In web researching gun violence rates and mass shooting rates by country *per capita*, I've found that the US isn't really as much of a "wild west" / lawless nation as the media portrays it.

For example:
http://www.ijreview.com/2015/06/348197-obama-said-mass-shootings-dont-happen-in-advanced-countries-like-in-us-one-chart-proves-him-wrong/
has interesting data. It is *clearly* biased / written with an "agenda", and there are other problems with it (small countries with one or two incidents rule the top of the chart), but it is interesting nonetheless.

I think culture has as big or bigger impact as anything else.

As to your final paragraph, I'm hesitant to paint all "terrorists and mass-shooters" with the "pathetic little shit" brush. I think the tendency to dismiss them in that way when trying to delve deeper into the questions of *why* does us a disservice in terms of preventing and/or limiting those people and incidents.

It's sorta like examining Hitler. Went about as evil and wrong as a human being has ever gone, and so we often want to just leave it at that. But I think that there have probably been plenty of garden-variety non-famous people who have been as evil and wrong as Hitler, but simply didn't have the unique level of power and opportunity to, uh, "sink to his depths".

Getting laid regularly would probably solve a lot of the world's problems (and perhaps create a few new ones). But this whole discussion reminds me of a quote from Spider Jerusalem, "And I am forced to suffer this in a city where I can fall in love eighty times a day just by stepping out on to the street and opening my eyes. You will all pay."

I always thjought america had a schizophrenic relationship with sex. I think it's a quote from Jack Nicholson that goes something like this: 'Show a nipple and your movie get's a R, cut a breast off with a sword and it get's a PG'
There a few countries with such a giant adult entertainment industry and at the same time abstinence only sex education.

Repressed sexuality is never a good thing.

Yeah, that chart is almost completely worthless. Clear indication that the publisher is either deceitful or ignorant.

At first I was thinking: "he actually brings up an interesting point, if only he'd tune down the condescending douche vibe".

But really, that tie in to Muslim countries and the "increased" frustration their young adult population is "subjected" to is downright retarded.

It's kinda amazing to me how someone like Bill Maher, who paints himself as a sort of enlightened "sane" voice of logic, is so preoccupied with taking jabs at Islam that even when he stumbles into an interesting talking point he can't help himself but spin it into exactly the kind of hateful, ignorant and demonizing nonsense he makes a living out of criticizing.

Funny how I just watched the latest John Oliver where he mentioned the Canadian elections and criticizes a decision that banned women from wearing niqabs
Take a page from John's book Bill, he's what sanity looks like.
