Why does my mind get filled with stereotypical images when I hear someone speak with an accent put three vowels and two syllables into the word "the"? And why do my teeth go on edge when I hear that stereotype being conformed to yet again? Am I just being southernist?

Well, to put it more accurately: monkeys and humans share a common ancestor. You could just as easily (and wrongly) say that monkeys are a type of human.
