What's up with the Japanese enjoying psychologically torturing helpless things like children and bear cubs?

with no mama bear from which to orient a response, the bear cub is merely startling at novelty -- which in this case happen to be other animals.. tho they might as well have been RC toys or some movable contraption of some kind....
