Asimo - Impressive new learning and A.I. skills

Asimo, the Honda robot we've all seen walking, talking climbing stairs, playing soccer etc.
... Now is able to see and learn like a child does.

He can now recognize objects, and decide what things are when he sees them.

THIS IS STUPENDOUSLY BASIC AI THE WHOLE THING IS A CRAPPY HONDA ADVERT ALL FIRE WORKS AND NOTHING OF ACTUAL INTEREST.

This sort of ai has existed for years the only thing commendable with this is that it outputs to robot but as u can see it is tethered (most probably to the computer doing all the work) The only thing that stops others doing this is the ridiculous costs associated with making bipedal robots.

Honda really disappoint me they have plenty of stuff that they can show off that's actually beneficial and original research but instead they show off tacky outdated crap that thay know the general public and simple media will lap up.

capitalist marketing BS.

It isn't so much the object recognition that is impressive, it's the movement tracking and the lack of need for the object to be in a certain position in order for the AI to recognize it.

Yes, it has been done before, but anything that will ever be implemented in a complete system will have been done before in isolation. The goal isn't to have a collection of individual skills, it is to have them working together seamlessly in a complete product. The software is the hardest part.

Really, many things that computers can't currently do seem nearly impossible, but the things they can do seem mundane. I saw a shirt the other day that summed it up pretty well: "Magic is just stuff that science hasn't made boring yet."
