Americas's 20 Most Powerful Moments of All-Time on TV

Quoted from YT: A new study by Nielson and Sony Electronics has compiled a list of the 20 most powerful moments in the history of television. Nielson surveyed 1077 American adults.

To measure impact, Nielsen and Sony created a score for each event derived by the number of people who viewed the event live, the number who could recall details about where they were during the occurrence and the number who could remember discussing what happened with others. Those parameters may explain why the surreal, slow-speed chase of Simpson's white Ford Bronco on June 17, 1994, ranked higher on the list than the 2011 earthquake in Japan, the Columbine High School shootings and the 2010 BP oil spill.

What.. no first man landing on the moon or moon walk.. I could not believe at the time that we were actually going to see this live from the freakin' MOON!!! And it's not on the list.. this should be #1 of all time!

No surprise 9/11 topped the list. Really questionable choices. I thought #2 would be the moon landing for sure. 9/11 could have been paired with bin Laden's death as one mention (two sides of one larger story). I think the announcement of JFK's assassination and his subsequent funeral were close enough together to warrant one event. Same is true with the ongoing drama that was OJ Simpson's original trial. JFK should have ranked higher than Simpson.

Casey Anthony has no right to this list at all, and I'd replace her with the 1989 World Series, where the SF Giants and Oakland A's (a fact notable to bay residents) were interrupted by an extremely lethal earthquake. Condensing references would allow the moon landing to occupy the #2 spot and a few more events to be selected.

That's what they get for letting a poll of 1077 randoms populate a list like this.

I'm upvoting because this list sucks and reflects the basic lack of historical perspective of a random sampling of Americans.

I want the whole Sift to see our national shame, since this is an international community.

I can't bear to watch it again. But what percent were basically just celebrity news?

I am embarrassed.

And shall contribute to my national Walk of Shame by upvoting.
