sfjockoI almost want to give this the "down" vote myself. It's cheesy and laden with flagfuck patriot sentiment. And I want to keep it around to remind myself, that yes, people really do think this way. Their minds are simplistic and irrational, undisciplined and infantile, and emotion-based. In other words, middle America. This type of "thinking" is why we have the government we do.
It's bad enough that the ocean becomes the US flag while he bathes in it. Then the angels come.
The rapture, the rapture, surely it's almost upon us!
EntertainmentMajorOjala! This is terrible. I just want to set fire to this video. What crap. I dont understand this American feeling that god wants America to rule the world. Granted most Americans do not feel this way, but a great number do. Is this some leftover "Manifest Destiny" feeling or what?
WumpusYeah the video is pretty terrible in a cheesy sort of way, but I fail to how peoples displays of patriotism can be described as simplistic and irrational, undisciplined and infantile, and emotion-based.
EntertainmentMajorWhen singers, politicians, and other people use references of "twin towers," "statue of liberty" and 9/11 as part of an argument that is using emotion based patriotism. The guy in the video is wearing USA clothing and soaking in the "flag water," its a cheap shot for the audience to feel compelled towards whatever he is singing about. The lyrics are pathetic, poory formulated and simpleminded so that anyone can follow along. However, they are so childish that even the most dense of people will follow along. There is no real message other than god loves America and so should you.
theyYea, the music isnt exactly my taste. but hey, to each his own.. my question is, where did you get the idea that God wants America to rule the world, from this video?
WumpusI didn't see any reference to the TWC or 9/11, unless you're referring to the firefighters, and the Statue of Liberty has always been a symbol for freedom and the United States. This singer doesn't make any attempts to conceal his message, through images or words or otherwise. All you had to do was read the posted title and you should already know his angle, it is hardly a "cheap shot". You are entitled to your opinion.
theo47I think the horribleness can be attributed more to his goofy looks and terrible song than how he expresses his "patriotism".
Patriotism means doing/wanting what's best for your country.
Nationalism, on the other hand, means "my country, right or wrong," which a lot of flag-waving Pledge-reciting types think is patriotism.
swampgirlI'm not voting for this because it's embarrassing. I'm an American and I consider myself patriotic, yes... there is even a flag attached to my house. I'm not ashamed to say it. There's alot of very good ideals behind that flag.
This guy tho.. was this made as joke or some parody??? He's taking himself so seriously, I almost can't laugh at it. Oh, but I did tho!
Theo47 has a point about the differences between true "patriotism" and the "nationalism" that sfjocko calls, "flagfuck patriot sentiment". Quite the colorful phrase, sfjocko. I must admit I've not heard that one.
This video is painful to say-the-least, from the looks of his hair style, he comes across as one of those psuedo-christian rock/pop singers that still hasn't quite escaped the 80's.
Now he's trying one last ditch effort to tap into some middle America "red states" consumer demographic before he becomes a full fledged Christian youth center lounge lizard for hire, singing Petra covers.
Just superimpose someone say, like Will Ferrel, in his stead and you'll have a pretty funny parody.
