Akira dreams of meeting Van Gogh in one of his paintings.
A brilliantly-colored vignette featuring director Martin Scorsese as Vincent Van Gogh. An art student (a character wearing Kurosawa's trademark hat who provides the POV for the rest of the film) finds himself inside the vibrant and sometimes chaotic world inside Van Gogh's artwork, where he meets the artist in a field and converses with him. The student loses track of the artist (who is missing an ear and nearing the end of his life) and travels through other works trying to find him. Van Gogh's painting Wheat Field with Crows is an important element in this dream. This Segment features Prelude No. 15 in D-flat major by Chopin.
Dreams — aka Akira Kurosawa's Dreams, Yume (夢), I Saw a Dream Like This, Konna yume wo mita, or Such Dreams I Have Dreamed — is a 1990 portmanteau film based on actual dreams of the film's director, Akira Kurosawa at different stages of his life. The film is based more on imagery than on dialogue. It consists of eight separate segments in the following order:

kronosposeidonsays...I just watched this movie again last week. I know some of the harsher critics like to say that Akira Kurosawa is a little over the top, but I disagree. Great film.
Farhad2000says...*requeue
I bet if this was a Ran, Rashmon or Yojimbo clip it would have been out of the queue already. Yet personally I think its one of Kurosawa's best yet horribly underrated films.
siftbotsays...Re-queueing this video for one more try; last queued Friday, February 8th, 2008 3:01am PST - requeue requested by submitter Farhad2000.
Kruposays...Pretty *long sift.
siftbotsays...This video has been flagged as being at least 10 minutes in length - declared long by Krupo.
Kruposays...Damnit Farhad, you've just reminded me of my other plan, to go and play some more piano. This piece is in my, at the moment shaky, repertoire. Not much bass in this rendition, but whatever, cool vid.
antsays...Vincent is misspelled in the title.
Thylansays...I liked this film. been a while since i watched it.
gwiz665says...This is just beautiful. I love the music which is strong in it's relative simplicity.
