A simplified argument for prop 8

Personally I'm against prop 8, but I feel it's important not to demonize the opposition.

I also feel that marriage is just a word that's not worth getting worked up on either side.

But I'll never feel that it's right to deny equality.

Here's two quick misleading points about the video though 1) The school in MA did give parents advance notice of reading the book with the same sex relationship. They would have been stupid not to, why create unnecessary outrage. 2)Do you really think they just go and hang out with their gay neighbors afterwards. How do they look them in the face? Do they lie to them when they lament about 8 passing?

These arguments are all bullshit.

Domestic partnerships aren't the same thing as marriages. Imagine how the average woman would react if her boyfriend asked her to enter into a domestic partnership instead of a marriage.

Catholic Charities voluntarily stopped its adoption work because it thinks that placing children with same sex couples is bad. But there is no evidence of this. Their assumption is based upon bigotry and ignorance and hatred.

It is ridiculous to think that churches would be required to perform marriages that they did not want to perform. And why would a same sex couple be members of a church that did not support their right to marry? This is just simply fear mongering.

What's wrong with teaching children about same sex marriage? Same sex couples are a part of the real world. In most of the country, and especially in California, homosexuals no longer have to hide for fear of their lives. Why not introduce the concept to them in a controlled environment? Is that not what school is for? Preparing children for the real world?

And at the end they call homosexuality a choice. Wonderful. Just because a bigoted, hateful point of view is expressed in a polite manner does not mean it is any less bigoted or hateful then calling for a fag drag.

this website has a 'test' the videos answers are insulting to my intelligence and the reasoning is so broken, it beggars belief.

If I could I would vote against Prop 8 - maybe living in a world where irrational fear was a little further iradicated would be good thing.

Prop 8 is legislated bigotry. You can fumble about and proclaim it's 'protecting' something.

I love how the website decries that its 'a lifestyle choice'
ok, let's say it is, so now a religious body feels it has a right to tell people they are wrong? Based on what? A mistranslation?

My girlfriend and I have discussed entering into a domestic partnership if same sex marriage is still illegal by the time we want to get married. Family pressure might get the best of us, though.

I heard that there is a group putting forth legislation to ban Heterosexual Divorce...using the same reason put forth to ban gay marriage (ie it causes depression in children, etc)

Holy DAMN, the logic behind these things are fucking idiotic, it pains me to know that there are really people that stupid out there. "Marriage has always been between a man and a woman, before any religion was established." You can tell that they're reading off of cue cards (especially the dull-witted-sounding girl), and the answers are just ridiculous.

I seriously didn't know this was in support of Prop 8 until the end.
I was thinking "Yeah, that's reasonable. Well hey, if they get the rights already under domestic, then why more? Oh, education and adoption. Those are important. Huh. Didn't know."

Then I was thinking "protect marriage" was about protecting the rights of gays and the status quo.

Perspective is everything.
