Battlefield 3: Caspian Border Gameplay (with jets!)
Frostbite 2 engine has some amazing features (micro-destruction, quasi real-time radiosity, streamed texturing) yet it's all wasted on EA's douchebagness. BC2 in 3D Stereo is just amazing. I'd love to get BF3, but through Steam, not Origin. I will boycott this product until I can get it without having to run Origin on my system.
Another example of EA buttassing a perfectly good product...
3D-Scanning with Kinect Fusion
Starts slow, but when they started mapping textures onto the generated models I think a little bit of brain fluid leaked out of my ear.

lol, what a load of crap
Apparently all the guy behind it is willing to let on as to the tech is "millions of atoms" and various other lines which we know to mean simply Voxels. He simply isn't willing to explain any further. I dunno if it's just a bit suss or that he's paranoid someone will rip it off.
The first thing I personally notice is the fact the world generated is completely static. How the fuck do you rig and animate a voxel character that complex? How do you get dynamic world motion in there like wind blowing grasses, trees, leaves, etc. The computation require to animate the world dynamically would be staggering. And then what about materials? How are materials created that isn't just colour if they're not just textures applied to polys but each individual voxel? What about collision?
Then the $50 million dollar question, is that how much it'll cost to simply develop a game for something like this? Game development costs are utterly absurd at the moment, with so many companies going under and only the big publishers left. The industry is ready to collapse and the last thing we need is something requiring that much more effort, time and money into creating. Which is why I desperately hope MS and Sony hold off releasing their new consoles for a while.

LBP 2 Code Swarm - Game development represented graphically!
>> ^grinter:
anyone got a key to the color codes?
There is a legend in the upper left hand corner.
On my ancient monitor with crappy color purity, it breaks down to:
source-dark blue
headers-aqua
audio-green
scripts-red
models-yellow
textures-orange
plans-darker blue
levels-fuscia
animation-pinkish red
misc-grey
Resonance- VERY well produced, VERY trippy sights and sounds
This informed me why I tend to hate modern action movies: the sound doesn't match what I'm seeing. It's some cool sounds, but they don't enhance the experience of watching. Far too many inappropriate "texture" sounds, like especially slime and liquid sounds where there's nothing on the screen that even suggests either. The only ones that had a solid match of visual and sound were the ones that started at 2:50, 5:42, 6:13 and 9:33. Special props to the sound in 6:13 for letting it enhance the visuals, rather than trying to make it a "bag of tricks" show like most of the other sound effects based ones.
Duke Nukem Forever Quicklook (yes it does suck that much)

I have the game, and finished it already.
It's not exactly a great game, but it's also not terrible. It's ok. BUT... it is duke, after 14 years, which makes it better. Gearbox took a huge gamble with this. They essentially had to tie up all the loose ends and present a game. They did that. I have no regrets over buying this game.
and hopefully if it sells well, it means gearbox will be able to make a new duke nukem game from scratch in the near future.
And anyone playing this on a 360 or PS3 is an idiot. There I said it. The game was made for PC. If it's not a great game, it's even worse on the consoles. Gearbox simply took what 3D Realms left behind and ported it. That's why loading times and texture pop-in is so bad on the console versions.
But I guess they had to maximize the profit on this.
Any professional gaming site/magazine/blog reviewing this not on a PC are completely stupid, and should know better.
Edit: and WTF??? The guy playing HAS to be the worst gamer ever... for crying out loud. How he managed to finish the game in the first place is beyond me, because I seriously don't understand how the person playing isn't playing a game for the first time in his life.
I'm playing this on PC in eyefinity (6088x1200 rez) and everything they talk about is bang on the money even across platforms. Still looks dated, effects are meh, game is boring.
Yep. And despite the decade (and more) of development time as a PC exclusive, it still manages to feel like a half-assed console port, bafflingly enough.

This game feels like it's been in development nearly as long as Duke Nukem Forever - I remember seeing early footage just after Quake 4 launched.
Tragic to think that after all this time, all this development and money, they've made a very visually stunning game that looks quite dull and tedious. To my eye looks exactly the same as Quake 4/3/2/1 Doom etc just with better graphics.
So essentially this is Quake 1 but you'll still need to invest an a top of the line new gaming rig just to get more than 15fps.
ID Games: a 1 trick pony that seem to think if they up the graphics enough time no one will notice the total lack of originality!
ID Tech 5 is portable across all major platforms. A high end gaming rig is most certainly not required. It's designed to make cross-platform releases have as much parity as possible. The fact that is made to run at solid 60 FPS on a PS3 and an Iphone as well as PC and 360 is probably one of the reasons it took so long to develop. I'm sure you will be able to crank up the bells and whistles on a high end PC but that was not the intention of this game or the engine.
Another reason for delay would be that Id is actually creating a new graphics technology too. Not just cranking out a game based on someone else's engine. Id Tech 5 streams MASSIVE amounts of textures on the fly into and out of memory seamlessly. Game devs never have to worry about texture memory constraints or making each platform look good. The engine optimizes everything per platform so each looks as good as possible while the developer only need make one version of the texture for all platforms.
Another reason for a long delay would be that Id licenses it's engines to a bevy of other game companies who could not pursue or afford the R&D of developing new tech. Part of selling such a high cost package is they need to provide usable tools for artists and programmers to interface with. This is a priority for their profitability down the line because if the tools suck there will be heavy tech support costs to fix them and maybe a lawsuit. "Rage" is just half of the equation here.
Finally, I believe the delay in this game could be attributed to it being a semi-open world exploration game, with a story line, and with a sizable racing component thrown in as well. It is not just a first person shooter as you see in this clip. In fact the multiplayer part of the game is said to be just the combat-racing. Not deathmatch or CTF. It's a pretty big departure from the "one trick pony" you describe.
Personally, I would like game devs to release a game when it's fully completed and not draw unfair comparisons to 3D Realms' laughable situation. There really is no similarity at all if you know the facts.
RAGE - The Well Official Gameplay Trailer
Hopefully this clip is from the console version of the game and the PC version has better textures and weapon/ammo selection (ie. number keys not stupid pop-ups)
RAGE - The Well Official Gameplay Trailer
I've always liked Id's games, and Rage's look is pretty cool, and the characters look pretty good, but the world textures? geez... some of those look Half-Life 1 quality. I hope this was not the game running in a powerful PC with all details to full.
And after playing LA Noire, all lip sync looks terrible to me.

Game looks solid, save for a few parts where the textures looked a bit blaaah.
That said idk how i'll feel about it taking me 10+ seconds to switch weapons in a fast paced game like this (even if it's only occasionally).
I will wait for the playable demo/beta and reviews.

Rabbi faces off with Anti-Circumcision Crusader
@SDGundamX
It seems more accurate to say circumcision is partially reversible, at the expense of substantial time, discomfort, and inferior results. From your link:
Maybe some people who have already been circumcised might what to consider pursuing restoration. Most people would like more pleasurable sex.
Even though it's partially reversible to cut off children's ears or foreskins (we could grow them new ear-like tissue in a lab), I'd be very skeptical of any claim that parents should be cutting off their children's ears.

If i try to pick what makes this uncomfortable...
Skin texture immediately looks like rubber not skin... I actually think this is wasted effort. If it looked like perfectly sculpted shiny chrome i would probably feel more affinity than this weird dead fake human look the researchers keep trying to go for.
also It's missing bio 'micro' movements. I think your subconscious expects to see slight moving, swaying, breathing, etc. Only dead things are perfectly still.
If you look closely at his chest and shoulders it is making a breathing like movement.
